I hope everyone is staying warm in this deep freeze going on across the country! I am running out of sweaters – so I need it to warm up just a smidge. I think I may have turned into a bear the last few weeks and consequently I have been practicing my hibernating skills and not posting.
The one positive thing about this weather is – perfect for a fire, a blanket and a good book. I am doing the GoodReads challenge for 2018 and have pledged to read 50 books this year. A bit daunting but I think it can totally be done! I just finished reading The Dry by Jane Harper – it is a murder mystery. I generally do not enjoy these types of novels because I figure them out too easily but this one had me guessing until the very end. I loved it!
After the holidays I wanted to incorporate some sequins into my looks – why give the sequins up? I think everyone needs a good pair of black sequin leggings. They are a great piece to dress up or down depending upon the occasion. I wore mine with a simple black top and added a fringe cropped blazer for a fun element. The sequin leggings look just as good with a basic chunky black sweater, or a satin shirt and a long blazer, or a white button down and black moto jacket…the possibilities are endless! Invest in a pair – I promise you won’t regret it.
Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday – I have found it extremely difficult getting back into the swing of things. I do not want to leave the warmth of my bed especially with the current cold front in Houston. I may have spent a few days of the break snuggled up in bed with a good book. I just finished The News From Spain: Seven Variations on a Love Story by Joan Wickersham. It is book of short stories which all center around love – love unrequited, love with bad timing, love with complications. Some of the stories are heart wrenching but I thoroughly enjoyed reading each one.
The outfit today is centered around one of my new favorite lace skirts! I love pencil skirts – they are great for dressing up and down. I have worn the skirt with a fun sweatshirt and some flat boots as well. I wanted to dress it up for a night out with friends so I added the button down and a vest for a masculine/feminine mix. The pearls were a fun accessory and the shoes were a great wow factor (I bought them 40% off) and the pink fur was a Christmas gift and perfect for the current cold nights (Mr. Wonderful was spot on with that one).
If it’s still cold in February I may repeat this outfit for Valentine’s Day – I love a good recycled outfit!
I hope everyone is having a great week! I apologize for skipping my Monday posting – to be quite honest I have been a bit off since the mugging. It is amazing how an incident like this can really shake your confidence. I have never experienced such a thing before and am realizing that the incident itself leaves traces of vulnerability behind. It was a hard lesson learned but I am definitely starting to feel better and hopefully will be back to normal soon!
In the interim – I have been attending some holiday lunches with girlfriends! I wore this outfit to a ladies lunch and in the evening swapped out my gold brogues for some stilettos. I came across this skirt online and completely fell in love with the texture and color. I wanted to stay warm so I added this cool and cozy gray hoodie on top (it’s on sale for $13 – I also bought the pink). This top is perfect for the Houston cold front that we are experiencing – I also styled it with some straight leg black jeans and biker boots.
I hope everyone is having a great week! Unfortunately I am late with my post because I was robbed at Whole Foods (the one on Kirby) and I have been dealing with the fall out – canceling credit cards, bank cards, drivers license….a nightmare. The police informed me that this is going on around town – holiday madness! Please be careful of your surroundings and lock your door immediately when getting in your car.
On a happier note – I just finished Reputations by Juan Gabriel Vásquez! It was my first read by the Columbian author and I was entranced. I cannot imagine how wonderful this book was in Spanish because the english translation was fantastic. Inspires me to learn spanish (which is my New Years goal every year).
And now on to the OOTD for today. I bought this dress in aubergine (seen here)and I loved it so much that I ordered it in blush pink as well. The dress was a complete hit! I wore it to Mr. Wonderful’s company holiday party and it was the perfect amount of festive and flirty. I kept things simple with all the accessories and just added a bit of pizzazz with my shoes. I have had these studded shoes forever and they are such a classic pair of shoes which can be dressed up and down.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! I have been in the full Christmas swing – shopping, decorating and wrapping! Since I am on the move constantly I had to find some comfortable clothing to do all of the above – I came across these pants and this super cozy high-low top. The top is currently buy one get second one half off (insert swoon emoji). I bought it in all my favorite colors for some layering on and off the tennis court – blush, red and army green. The outfit proved chic for running around for errands and I spot on for the gym – what more can a girl ask for? If Santa is listening….jewelry Santa, a girl can ask for jewelry! 🙂
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I have been enjoying this gorgeous crisp weather and hope it stays this crisp forever (realistically – at least a few days in Houston would be nice).
On a side note I just finished reading – When We Were Worthy by Marybeth Mayhew Whalen. it reminded me of Big Little Lies which I absolutely loved reading as well (and watching on HBO). It was a quick read and a real page turner.
I came across these pants online and absolutely fell in love with them. The black denim and the ruffle were spot on and have such a fun and flirty element to them. They will be great to wear in warm weather as well which is a big consideration in Houston. I added a basic black sweater and these die for mules! I saw them at Nordstrom online and had to have them. The embroidery is gorgeous and the mule design is very on trend and easy to wear. When I am running around they are perfect for slipping on my feet for the glam factor (did I mention they are on sale). 🙂
It has been so long since I posted. I hope everyone survived Harvey and is in a better place now. I was very fortunate and it didn’t seem right to post during all the chaos everyone was experiencing. But the city has pulled together, the Astros have won and Thanksgiving is almost here!
Before I get to the OOTD I would like to discuss The Handmaid’s Tale – on Hulu. If you have not seen it I recommend you do so immediately. I cannot confirm nor deny but I may have binge watched it in two days. But that is neither here nor there. The series is based on the novel by Margaret Atwood which I read eons ago. I do not remember details anymore which is great because I have gotten to see the series through fresh eyes. I always love a show where the characters are so multi-dimensional that you are not sure if you love them or hate them. I cannot wait for the next season!
I came across this dress online and completely fell in love. I am obsessed with this color – aubergine. It could be that Houston has finally reached temperatures low enough that it feels like it may actually be Fall (sort of). But dark jewel tones remind me of New York this time of year – and I so rarely see this rich color. It is the perfect shade. The dress fit off the rack which is amazing and the best part – it is under a $100 and very well made. That is not a typo! I love the tulle, the backless element and the tea length. I wore it to a gala but it can easily be worn to holiday parties or ladies lunches. I also wore it out with a small denim jacket and some stilettos.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I just got back from a quick getaway to Austin where I dropped off my sweet baby girl to sleep away camp. I am not going to lie – my stomach is churning and I haven’t slept much. BUT I know she is having the best time with one of her best friends (that is what I keep reminding myself anyway). I wore this outfit to Austen – it was the perfect blend of casual and chic. It is also great for a lunch date or a casual night out. I have a huge fascination with army green pants. I have skinny versions, wide leg versions and this boyfriend pair might be my favorite by far. This pair is soft like sweatpants and the slouchy fit is spot on perfect! The silky pink top is the perfect touch of girly and the structured tote (or as my youngest calls it “mommy – your stick bag”) is the finishing touch.
I hope everyone is having a fabulous week and staying out of the heat! I have been really enjoying my quiet time in Houston before I take off for Colorado – the city is less crowded and I get to go to my favorite restaurants as often as I like! I am becoming quite the regular at La Table – the lamb burger is out of this world for lunch and do not even get me started on the fantastic avocado and cucumber salad. Yummy! I wore this out to lunch with a girlfriend the other day at La Table – perfect for a ladies brunch (or even date night)!
Hope everyone is having a great day! I am just doing a quick post for a new fun top I just bought and wore to a girls lunch a few days ago. The blue in this top is perfection and I love the subtle pattern and lightweight silk which allows it to drape beautifully. I kept the outfit simple with just a few accessories and barely there sandals. I added my summer staple clutch and I was ready to roll. I have also worn the top loose and flowing over a pair of skinny jeans and it looked fantastic without the belt as well!
