I apologize – I have spent the past two weeks hanging out with my mom, so the blog has largely been on vacation. We just got back from Rosemary Beach, where it was perfect weather other than one day of rain when we arrived. Actually I do not mind a little rain on vacation – it is the perfect excuse to curl up in my window nook with a good book. I am currently reading Uncovered by Leah Lax, and I cannot say enough good things about this book – run (do not walk) and get it immediately. Leah was my Table Talk speaker last week at the University of Houston Women’s Studies event. She is an amazing speaker and her life story is captivating – she had the entire table hanging on her every word. I do not want to give too much away, but I promise you will be just as enthralled as I am. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the book if you get a chance to read it.
I just discovered this new knitwear collection by Zara and I am completely smitten. This skirt and sweater are extremely soft and light weight, making them the perfect pieces for a beach vacation. I intend to wear the skirt with a fitted T-shirt and a sweater to stay warm in restaurants at dinner (we tend to over air-condition everything here in Houston…) During the day with flip-flops it will be extremely casual, and at night I just need a pair of heels and some jewelry and I am ready to roll.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! I embraced my inner Texas and went to the rodeo yesterday. My kids had a blast – I came home and fell asleep at 5:30pm…..and proceeded to sleep until morning. Thank you Mr. Wonderful for letting me take the evening and night off!
I love tassels – doesn’t everyone? There is a huge resurgence in tassels this spring. I see them everywhere from scarves to shoes (hello flats and sandals here). I saw the tassels on this dress and was pretty sold. That small detail elevates this from a boring white tunic to pure fun. It is a heavy weight cotton, not see through at all (which can be a problem with white sometimes). I threw on my favorite new necklace and hints of blue and I was ready for my beach stroll…..
I hope everyone had a good weekend! I am writing this entry as I am watching the finale of Downton Abbey and I do appreciate the entire series being tied with a bow (even the bow has bows). I feel very satisfied after six series. No spoilers here…
I spent the weekend enjoying the gorgeous weather and very casual attire. I found these kicks and my feet thank me every time I wear them. They are comfy and chic – a hard combination to achieve! It is a bit chilly in the morning – so I grabbed my favorite current jacket. I pretty much wear it everyday (seen here over a dress). The key to wearing kicks is to wear a slightly dressed up outfit and then bring it back to earth with the sneakers. High heels would have made this impossible to run around at the zoo…..you know I have tried that before and it didn’t go well.
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I spent the weekend enjoying the sunshine and even went out to the Antique Fair off I-45. It was a few hours spent in the sunshine hunting for treasures. An ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
The off the shoulder trend has morphed into a shoulder-less trend for Spring. It is a very cool way to be sexy and show some skin but still retain modesty coverage. I am a huge fan! While at the beach I came across this blush pink shoulder less dress and had to have it. It is very light weight and the pale pink is great for tanned skin. It was a bit chilly so I threw on my current favorite jacket. I have pretty much been living in this jacket since I picked it up.
I enjoy multi-use clothing and I can’t wait to use the dress as a cover up for the beach this summer (insert swoon emoticon).
Sorry for the late post today, but I have been unpacking and getting back into the swing of things. The beach was just dreamy – there is no other way for me to say it. I LOVE our new house, and I cannot wait to start putting my personal stamp on it. I was extremely busy with getting the house ready, but I generally found time for some fun lunches and dinners. I adore this dress that I wore out to lunch – it is extremely lightweight and the shape is fun and flirty for summer.Throw in the gingham print (which reminds me of the Dorothy dress from Oz, but much chicer and more modern), and that coupled with my mood was the trifecta of fabulous.
With Oz heavy on my brain I added a straw bag by Olive design. One of my dearest friends just started her own business making these fabulous straw bags and I am madly in love with them. They are the perfect size and extremely whimsical – so of course they have my name all over them! Follow her on Instagram and place an order (she does custom orders – can anyone say blush pink?)
It is so great to be home! I had a fabulous time but I am excited to sleep in my own bed. I am on a completely wacky schedule right now – with the 10 hour time difference I am up at 3am and exhausted by 5pm. I will work on fixing that this week. There were so many amazing things in Dubai that I don’t even know where to start. The food was incredible – I had a wide range of cuisines including French, Lebanese, Chinese, Indian, Italian and more kinds of burgers than I can mention. Dubai is a city that is very much on the rise – there is construction everywhere! The construction happens all day and night long and as a result things get done incredibly fast. It is an architects paradise – if you can dream it you can bring it to life.
I had one day of really good shopping in Dubai and I had to take advantage! I pulled out my handy quilted skater shoes and this super comfy top. This outfit was great for the endless walking and the top was perfect for a leisurely casual day (I also wore it out to a fun dinner).

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! It is full on holiday party time and I wanted to share this amazing dress I just came across! I have a thing for ostrich feathers – they are soft, fun and give such great texture to an outfit. This dress had me at first glance. I kept things simple with an all black outfit but added a pop of silver with the clutch. This dress is great for many occasions – holiday party, girls night out and of course New Year’s Eve! I can not wait to restyle it!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! The temps have dropped tremendously and I am reaching for my cashmere poncho. This wrap feels like a warm hug on a chilly day. The pale gray is flattering on almost every skin tone and it goes with everything. I have been getting dressed and throwing it on top of virtually every outfit (I also adore it in the black and birch color – dreamy).
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I thoroughly enjoyed mine and have added it to the list of great holiday memories. I have to be honest I didn’t do anything other than create the turkey (pretty much what I do every year). My nephew was in charge of cranberry sauce (I am going to add – just to brag about him that it was made from scratch), my niece made the stuffing (her speciality) and I had two sets of friends over with their kids who covered the sweet potato casserole, the salad, fresh made french bread (insert emoticon with crazy eyes) and several pies from scratch. I actually felt bad I had not done more! But it was a great day making great memories.
Since we are experiencing a cold snap (thank goodness) I have taken out some tall boots. These fringe boots are one of my oldies but goodies and honestly they make everything look good. I added the faux leather skirt and played with proportions with the crop top. Gold accessories rounded it all out.
Hope everyone had a wonderful (albeit very chilly) weekend! I went cycling this weekend – I had to buy many accessories I never even knew existed like “sleeves”, “leg warmers”, under shell and gloves to go over my gloves) and I bit the big one. Yup, I fell and I fell hard. Good news is the bruises are all on my legs so you can not see them unless I am in a skirt. But I have been trying out various cover ups to make them less noticeable (a bit hard when the one on my knee is a half-dollar size and purple).
As Houstonians we wait desperately for this time of year. There is something so right about extremely chilly weather this time of year. It gets me prepared for the holidays – starting with my favorite holiday of all Thanksgiving. It is time to pull out my cashmere sweaters because chances are it will only last a day or two (current forecast for Thanksgiving is 80 degrees so I will be keeping the doors open in the family room).
I came across this cashmere sweater and absolutely love that the zipper is in the back. Today I turned it around so I could wear it as a cardigan. I have worn it both ways and you guys know I love a multifunctional piece of clothing (see here and here). The soft gray color had me (of course) excited to pair it with pink. These pink skinny pants might be the best pants ever made (they also come in every color imaginable). They are my new find and I LOVE them! They contain the right amount of stretch which makes them extremely flattering. Also, the fit is perfect around the waist and the length is just right for fun pumps.
