I hope everyone has had a great week! I wanted to share a quick outfit post today about mixing some more colors with my favorite blush pink. And today it is totally about red – I am obsessed with this color right now! Mr. Wonderful loves when I wear red and the thing is I rarely indulge in this color. Depending on skin tone you have to invest in the correct red tone. With my olive complexion and yellow undertones a deep dark red is the way to go. If your skin is lighter with more peach tones – I would recommend a more orange-red (like this top here).
Spring is around the corner (in Houston it is well into summer on some days) but nothing screams spring like flowers. So cliché but so true. I saw this skirt at Zara and I love the length, the color combinations and the beautiful floral print. It is all around gorgeous and for $69 it is a steal! I wanted to play up the beautiful red flowers so I added a red bell sleeve top (sleeves are all the rage this summer) and topped it off with a neutral bag and shoes. Viola – ladies lunch here I come!
I hope everyone is having a great week! I want to share some additional pics from SWFW (Fashion Week) in Rosemary last week. These are actually separates that I wore together – red pants and a draped red top with a fun shiny belt to pull it all together. Everyone who approached me all night assumed that it was a dress! When using monochromatic color it is always fun to use some fun textures – fringe, pleats, draped style, etc. to make the outfit visually more interesting. I also added the fun card clutch for a touch of whimsy!
P.S. Just discovered these shoes are 30% today use code MAINEVENT16 – click here
I hope everyone has been having a wonderful week! Unfortunately I have been under the weather with this crazy cough that has gone around (I have not spent this much time recuperating in bed in years….) On a positive note, as part of my R&R, I discovered a new binge-worthy series – American Crime. Have you seen it? It is extremely gritty, but I have enjoyed the premise – following one crime over the span of each season. I became so invested in the characters in season one that I had to take a break to recover for a bit after the explosive ending (insert crazy eye emoticon). Season two was a completely different story line, but still very relevant to issues in current society (I cannot imagine what the crime will be in season 3, but I am waiting with bated breath!)
Also as part of my recovery I decided to clean up my computer, and I came across these pics that were never posted! I love accessories in general, and scarves are one of my absolute favorites. They are great as an accent accessory, as a pop of color, to elevate a casual outfit, or simply to keep you warm in those frigid Houston restaurants or movie theaters. There are a multitude of ways they can be styled, and I have shared five options below (coupled with my casual jogger pants.) These pants are amazing as a casual errand look with kicks, and fun with heels (the juxtaposition of joggers with heels is just spot-on cool!)
1 – The simple one loop – the baby step into wearing a scarf. It is carelessly chic.
I hope everyone has been enjoying the start of summer break! I apologize for being MIA but my grandfather passed away suddenly two weeks ago and things have been hectic. He was a sweet and gentle man who was wise beyond his years. It was a privilege to have gotten to hear his stories about my mom and her siblings growing up. He will be missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I did this post right before coming to Rosemary Beach and wanted to share it…..Does anyone remember I Dream of Jeannie? Even thought the original show started in 1965 – it was pretty much on repeat somewhere my entire childhood. I think you can still find the show on cable even today! So when I came across these genie pants I just couldn’t help myself (I also bought them in pink and black – they are perfect for the summer). These pants are great as a casual pair of pants at the beach (can’t wait to wear them as a cover up), and when you add heels they are spot on for a fun dinner night out with friends.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I have been recovering a bit this week from the kids’ break and the tennis tournament last week. Apparently after taking ten days off to do nothing, my body doesn’t feel like working out anymore (insert emoticon in pain here) and prefers sleeping late and enjoying lattés and vino. I have been persevering as much as I can – my only consolation is that I had a really nice tan!
I am a huge skirt fan and the midi length is spot on for heels and flats and so effortlessly elegant. I came across this skirt in several shades of blue and I had to have it! It is perfect to wear all summer and at the beach (wink-wink). The pattern is quite bold, so I kept the accessories to a minimum. I love these neutral basic shoes – I originally saw the Stuart Weitzman Nudist pair and fell in love with them BUT they were toe crunchers (I couldn’t even walk around the store…) I then came across this luxe for less pair and bought them in three colors (yup three – neutral, black and white). The front strap is wide and the bottom of the sole is cushioned so I can actually walk in them for long periods of time.
I apologize – I have spent the past two weeks hanging out with my mom, so the blog has largely been on vacation. We just got back from Rosemary Beach, where it was perfect weather other than one day of rain when we arrived. Actually I do not mind a little rain on vacation – it is the perfect excuse to curl up in my window nook with a good book. I am currently reading Uncovered by Leah Lax, and I cannot say enough good things about this book – run (do not walk) and get it immediately. Leah was my Table Talk speaker last week at the University of Houston Women’s Studies event. She is an amazing speaker and her life story is captivating – she had the entire table hanging on her every word. I do not want to give too much away, but I promise you will be just as enthralled as I am. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the book if you get a chance to read it.
I just discovered this new knitwear collection by Zara and I am completely smitten. This skirt and sweater are extremely soft and light weight, making them the perfect pieces for a beach vacation. I intend to wear the skirt with a fitted T-shirt and a sweater to stay warm in restaurants at dinner (we tend to over air-condition everything here in Houston…) During the day with flip-flops it will be extremely casual, and at night I just need a pair of heels and some jewelry and I am ready to roll.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I thoroughly enjoyed mine and have added it to the list of great holiday memories. I have to be honest I didn’t do anything other than create the turkey (pretty much what I do every year). My nephew was in charge of cranberry sauce (I am going to add – just to brag about him that it was made from scratch), my niece made the stuffing (her speciality) and I had two sets of friends over with their kids who covered the sweet potato casserole, the salad, fresh made french bread (insert emoticon with crazy eyes) and several pies from scratch. I actually felt bad I had not done more! But it was a great day making great memories.
Since we are experiencing a cold snap (thank goodness) I have taken out some tall boots. These fringe boots are one of my oldies but goodies and honestly they make everything look good. I added the faux leather skirt and played with proportions with the crop top. Gold accessories rounded it all out.
Hope everyone has had a great week! I came across these pics I took a few weeks ago when temperatures were just starting to dip. Sometimes all you need is a pair of jeans and a great top to make the perfect outfit. This top is the trifecta for me – I adore the ruffles, the color and the sleeves (did I mention it is lighter than air?). With the addition of the gray skinnies (and yes skinnies are still around and will stay) you can pretty much go anywhere – I went to Drexel House of dinner. I added some sparkle on my feet and neck and I was ready to roll.
