Flirty & Feminine: Black Ruffled Dress

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone has been having a great week! The rain has been falling steadily here, but today started with a glimmer of sunshine through my window and it is amazing how much my mood has improved. As I recall sunnier days, I am taken back to this photo shoot from Rosemary Beach…..I am always looking for a fun flirty dress, and when I came across this one it was instant love! The black background with the cream embroidery is the perfect balance of delicate and flirty, and the ruffles across the bodice complement the fun, flirty feel. The dress also comes in a mint green which is gorgeous!

Given all of the embroidery and ruffles on this dress (which deserve to be the center of attention), I added no accessories other than my usual daily jewelry, black block heels (totally on trend) and a black-detailed straw bag. As you know, I love an item of clothing that can do double duty – I have also styled this dress as a fun top, adding a long black skirt and a wide black belt on bottom – no one was the wiser! The dress became two separate pieces of clothing, which makes it a great option for vacation packing….

I have also styled with dress with black ballet flats and a chic black cross-body bag for easy day-to-day errands after school drop-off.

I hope that gives you some good ideas for multiple stylings for the dress!

Taupe Midi Ruffles & Lace-Up Booties

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! I have just wrapped up all of my travels, and I am trying to get back into the swing of things. Every year like clockwork I swear I will keep up with posts over the summer, but between kids home from school and time at the beach, I pretty much end up Rosé All Day (literally…..) But it was definitely an amazing summer, and I miss the sand and surf already (as far as the kids – I am ready for school to start!)
I want to share this amazing dress that I came across at Banana Republic! Since Marissa Webb took over as their Creative Director, there has been a plethora of cool new items added to the collection that are spot-on for day and night. The color of this dress is perfect beach chic (it was the first thing that drew me to it), and the midi-length is very contemporary. The ruffles give it a soft and feminine touch, which is one of my favorite stylings.
I wore the dress out to dinner with friends and kept things simple with lace-up booties and a vintage gold belt. The gold textured belt was the perfect companion to show off the simplicity of the taupe dress. I also recently wore the dress running around for a quick-lunch with white Converse All-Star sneakers and a cross-body bag for a perfectly relaxed look. I cannot wait to style it again for an upcoming return-to-Houston girls night out. I am going to wear it with a big bib necklace, ankle boots and a cropped moto jacket (pictures to come!). I love a versatile piece of clothing, and this dress is perfect from brunch to cocktails to dinner!

Bold Midi Skirt, Studs & Minimalist Heels

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  I have been recovering a bit this week from the  kids’ break and the tennis tournament last week.  Apparently after taking ten days off to do nothing, my body doesn’t feel like working out anymore (insert emoticon in pain here) and prefers sleeping late and enjoying lattés and vino.  I have been persevering as much as I can – my only consolation is that I had a really nice tan!

I am a huge skirt fan and the midi length is spot on for heels and flats and so effortlessly elegant.  I came across this skirt in several shades of blue and I had to have it!  It is perfect to wear all summer and at the beach (wink-wink).  The pattern is quite bold, so I kept the accessories to a minimum.  I love these neutral basic shoes – I originally saw the Stuart Weitzman Nudist pair and fell in love with them BUT they were toe crunchers (I couldn’t even walk around the store…)  I then came across this luxe for less pair and bought them in three colors (yup three – neutral, black and white).  The front strap is wide and the bottom of the sole is cushioned so I can actually walk in them for long periods of time.

Spring Floral Pattern Trend

Hello lovelies!

Hope everyone is having a great week!  One of my favorite trends from the Spring runways is the bold floral pattern.  Florals and patterns have been around the past few seasons, but this season the florals became bolder and more vivid.  It was seen all over, including Victoria Beckham and her Moroccan exotic flora, Michael Kors who was bluebell crazy, and Kate Spade’s show positively screamed flowers.  When I came across this dress I fell in love with the color and the silhouette.  The pigmentation of the purple and green is absolutely stunning in person.  I kept all of my accessories simple to keep the focus on the florals.  Summer Brunch, here I come!

University Of Houston – Table Talk

Hello lovelies!

Hope everyone had a nice and relaxing long weekend!  I have been busy gearing up for Table Talk!  It’s a great luncheon supporting the University of Houston Friends of Women’s Studies — it happens Thursday March 24th at the Hilton Americas downtown, and the invitation press deadline is January 25th. See more details below. Instead of one speaker at the front, we have 50 women from lots of industries and backgrounds, one at each table, leading the conversation.  Past conversationalists have included:  Annise Parker, Mayor of Houston, Tina Knowles, Designer, Cindy B. Taylor, CEO, Oil States Energy Services, Elizabeth Chiao, MD, MPH, Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Ruth Simmons, President Emerita, Brown University, Jyoti Malhan, Principal, Baylor College of Medicine Academy at Ryan, Carmen Jordan, Houston Market President, IberiaBank, and Andrea Gardner, Longshorewoman, Port of Houston.  Who can resist the chance to be in a room with women with such great accomplishments.

You can go online and buy tickets directly to the event.  Here is the link: https://giving.uh.edu/wos/

Please commit at the highest level you can. All support goes to the UH WGSS program, where they work everyday at building a fair future for us and our kids!

If you’d like to split a table, just divide the table level by the number of guests, and guests can go online and pay their share directly.

Just have them give your name in the comments section and the office will put everyone who lists that name at the same table. The tenth guest is your conversationalist — soon after you register, you will get an email with the list of conversationalists and you send in your top ten choices. It’s a great list again this year — and the higher your table level, the better your odds for getting your first choice. To share a table with someone you don’t yet know, call the office to find a match.  I would love to see everyone come out and support this great cause!

If you want more details about the event please go online and check it out here!

Today I am experimenting with some tried and true favorites from my closet.

Borrowed From the Boys: Tux, Button Down and Vest

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  I managed to stay dry and really got into the cool weather on Sunday.  I mean the leaves haven’t changed color, and the air has not been crisp so I had to take my 54 degree weather and run with it!

I am a little obsessed with red right now – it is not a color I normally gravitate towards but Mr. Wonderful does love it when I am in red.  If all else fails I throw on my new favorite red lipstick (get it here).  I wanted to get into the fall spirit by keeping everything else black.  These are my absolutely new favorite pants – they are black denim with crazy amounts of stretch (yeah) and the added details of the tuxedo stripe and ankle zippers are spot on perfect.  I can not stop wearing them and look forward to styling them in the next few weeks.  Fringe is still very hot for fall and Christian Louboutin was way ahead of the curve when I bought these several years ago.  I have listed my current favorite fringe shoes down below. The addition of the blazer polished up the entire outfit and I was ready for meetings, brunch and drinks.

NYC: Sleeveless Blazer & Stripes

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend!  I just got back from NYC – it was a quick but relaxing getaway.  It is amazing how much the city has changed and yet remains the same.  Some of my favorite spots are still there and it was fun discovering new hot spots.  But one of my favorite things to do in NYC is shop!  I cannot wait to share some of the goodies this week!

I want to focus on the sleeveless blazer or long vest today.  I love it!  I find it extremely versatile and the (crazy) high temperatures in Houston make it the perfect layering piece to chic things up a bit.  I came across this sleeveless blazer and fell in love with the color and its proportions (and it is 40% off for Labor Day).  The focus was meant to stay on the long vest so I kept the rest of the outfit very neutral.  This would be a great piece to add to shorts, a skater skirt, skinny jeans, and (the fall staple) flares.

Blush Pink: Ruffles & Lady Dior

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone had a great week!  I know I have been raving about the new Banana Republic since Marissa Webb took over design.  But every time I go in there I find something that I absolutely love.  Case in point – this dress!  I love the blush pink color and with the high low ruffles resistance was futile.  The feminine and fun shape was loved by all.  Who doesn’t want to feel girly?  If you want the dress to be a bit longer I would size up in the dress.

I am off to NYC right now – back to my home town!  Looking forward to sharing posts from there but you can follow me on Instagram or Facebook to see what I am up to in the Big Apple.

BR Midi Skirt: Pegasus & Splashes of Red

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and managed to stay dry in the rain.  I found a moment of sunshine to grab these photos of my new favorite midi skirt from Banana Republic.  I can’t wait to restyle this skirt, but today I want to share a basic yet chic look with splashes of red.  The belt, shoes and lipstick were the perfect pops of color.

Romper Restyled: Marigold, Fringe & Pegasus

Hello lovelies!

I love my new romper from Banana Republic and I want to share another styling of it (previous styling here).  My current love of marigold is still going strong (remember this chic marigold skirt here) and combining it with army green was just spot on perfect.  It resulted in a casual chic outfit but the addition of the pegasus necklace and fringe stilettos made the outfit uptown chic.

I must confess this particular season at Banana Republic has been one of my favorites!  I may have bought everything army green and marigold in the shop (I did).
