I hope everyone had a great weekend! I just got back from a quick getaway to Austin where I dropped off my sweet baby girl to sleep away camp. I am not going to lie – my stomach is churning and I haven’t slept much. BUT I know she is having the best time with one of her best friends (that is what I keep reminding myself anyway). I wore this outfit to Austen – it was the perfect blend of casual and chic. It is also great for a lunch date or a casual night out. I have a huge fascination with army green pants. I have skinny versions, wide leg versions and this boyfriend pair might be my favorite by far. This pair is soft like sweatpants and the slouchy fit is spot on perfect! The silky pink top is the perfect touch of girly and the structured tote (or as my youngest calls it “mommy – your stick bag”) is the finishing touch.
I hope everyone is having a great week! My new au pair has arrived from Slovakia, and we just finished a trip to the Social Security Office – it was actually a lot less painful than I had imagined. We were in and out in about 30 minutes – I highly recommend going to any government office first thing in the morning!
I want to talk sleeveless blazers today. Living in an extremely hot environment, the sleeveless blazer is an answered prayer for me. I love blazers because they have the ability to upgrade almost any outfit, but with temperatures in the high 80s (already) a blazer during the day is a bit much. Enter this clean and sleek blazer with an amazing color combination – black, blue and white in the back, allowing it to complete almost any outfit (I am also partial to the fun striped lining….) What started as a jeans and t-shirt day became more elevated with this simple addition.
Hope everyone is having a great week! I am just getting off of the high of seeing Salman Rushdie at the Inprint reading on Monday night. He was absolutely incredible – his knowledge of literature to politics to history is absolutely incredible (so pretty much everything). And his sense of humor is divine – have I ever mentioned how much I love a funny guy? I can not wait to start reading the book – Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights (i.e. 1001 Arabian Nights).
The borrowed from the boys category is a full on trend this season (see my tux and button down styled here) and what says prep school more than a navy blue blazer? This particular blazer received my attention because of the sleek white satin lapel which gave it a cool twist. While the gold buttons on the sleeves kept it classic. It is a great way to incorporate the boys trend and still keep it modern and not “literally” borrowed from the boys. I also wanted a dash of fun and girly so the button down in the cobalt leopard was just what I needed to complete the look. I can’t wait to wear my leopard again! The fringe shoes are still going strong so if you haven’t purchase a pair yet – check out my fun high and low finds below.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I managed to stay dry and really got into the cool weather on Sunday. I mean the leaves haven’t changed color, and the air has not been crisp so I had to take my 54 degree weather and run with it!
I am a little obsessed with red right now – it is not a color I normally gravitate towards but Mr. Wonderful does love it when I am in red. If all else fails I throw on my new favorite red lipstick (get it here). I wanted to get into the fall spirit by keeping everything else black. These are my absolutely new favorite pants – they are black denim with crazy amounts of stretch (yeah) and the added details of the tuxedo stripe and ankle zippers are spot on perfect. I can not stop wearing them and look forward to styling them in the next few weeks. Fringe is still very hot for fall and Christian Louboutin was way ahead of the curve when I bought these several years ago. I have listed my current favorite fringe shoes down below. The addition of the blazer polished up the entire outfit and I was ready for meetings, brunch and drinks.
Tuxedo pants (love them in this dreamy maroon with black tux stripe here)(40% with code BRSALE – I say get all the colors)
So sorry I have been behind in posting on the blog but it is all due to back to school madness!
It is still scorching here in Houston but I had some meetings indoors – I took advantage and put on some layers. The borrowed from the boys look is a huge trend this fall. The key to wearing this trend is to keep elements of the outfit feminine. The cross body bag in a girly silver and sparkly skater shoes were the perfect details. Skater shoes are still going strong for fall and these sparkly ones made my heart thump. Did I mention these beauties are $24.99? I bought an extra pair in case I wore this pair out.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! My birthday week has been more fun than I was anticipating and full of surprises! For me, the thing about surprises is that is I do not know I want one until I get one! 🙂
Sorry this is a day late but I really wanted to share these new flat that I am wild about. They are borrowed from the boys, totally chic and on trend. And the price is unbeatable at $120. I purchased the black and nude and can not wait to share them styled.
I hope everyone is having a great week! I have been very busy trying to get back into the swing of everyday life with its attendant responsibilities and deadlines. But, c’est la vie! Here is an outfit I wore running around town which took me from meetings to drinks post. Whoever said white can’t be worn after Labor Day didn’t live in Houston…
Hope everyone is having a great week! It is actually a little known fact that I have a secret love for flying. I took these pics outside the Air and Space Museum – I have always wanted to take flying lessons (even the current book I am reading is called The Aviator’s Wife!) The idea of being so free and soaring above the earth gives me great joy, and to me it seems like a miracle of sorts. If you will indulge me and let me share a poem (you may have read it before, but if not I am delighted to be the first to introduce it to you) – it sums up the idea of flight perfectly.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air….
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor even eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
As you are reading this I am back in Houston – it is always such a great feeling to come home after a long trip. You forget the little things, like how your house smells, that are just irreplaceable! While I enjoyed the DC weather for the most part, we did have a hot day right before I left, so I whipped out my new Marimekko for Banana Republic bright floral tailored shorts.
