I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I just got back from a quick trip to Rosemary Beach. The weather was amazing with daily blue skies. I also got to play some great tennis and have fabulous dinners. I am always on the lookout for the perfect pair of shorts – when I came across these in NYC for under $20 I scooped them up immediately. I love them so much I bought all the colors online after I got home. They are a very lightweight cotton and I adore the high waist and paper bag cinching. Yellow in all its shades (remember my marigold here) is extremely popular this spring and it goes great with blue. I added the fun bib necklace and I was ready to roll!
I hope everyone is having a great summer! I hear the temperatures in Houston are soaring! I am grateful to be in Rosemary Beach enjoying my cool evenings and beautiful beaches. It is difficult to combat the heat and still look chic. Maxi dresses are effortless, easy and double as a beach cover up. I can never resist something that is so multi-functional. I find it difficult sometimes to find a maxi dress that is chic and not tropical crazy. This maxi dress is 100% cotton (perfect for summer) and I love the basic shape with the gorgeous pink color. Also you can’t beat the price at $29.99. I stayed with the bohemian vibe with some long necklaces and a straw bag. And off I go to a yummy lunch at La Créma (fantastic tapas restaurant).
Target maxi (sold out online but you can try locating in store – I also love this peach one here)
I hope everyone has been enjoying the start of summer break! I apologize for being MIA but my grandfather passed away suddenly two weeks ago and things have been hectic. He was a sweet and gentle man who was wise beyond his years. It was a privilege to have gotten to hear his stories about my mom and her siblings growing up. He will be missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I did this post right before coming to Rosemary Beach and wanted to share it…..Does anyone remember I Dream of Jeannie? Even thought the original show started in 1965 – it was pretty much on repeat somewhere my entire childhood. I think you can still find the show on cable even today! So when I came across these genie pants I just couldn’t help myself (I also bought them in pink and black – they are perfect for the summer). These pants are great as a casual pair of pants at the beach (can’t wait to wear them as a cover up), and when you add heels they are spot on for a fun dinner night out with friends.
I apologize for my recent sporadic posts, but between work, bringing my new au pair up to speed and the end of the school year things have been a bit crazy. Hopefully I will be back on my regular schedule very soon! Today I want to share a restyle of one of my favorite purchases – this pink fringe skirt. The movement on this skirt is so much fun that I really want to share a video of it in action! Remember my beach styling here? Today’s styling is a bit more relaxed – it was the perfect outfit for Mother’s Day Brunch!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I enjoyed the lack of rain thoroughly until Sunday evening that is…but the rain allowed me to indulge in my favorite new podcast – Beautiful Stories from Anonymous People by Chris Gethard. Ever since the Serial Podcast I have pretty much become hooked and am always looking for a new one and the premise of this is hysterical. The host Chris Gethard who is a comedian by trade gets a phone call and he cannot hang up no matter what and cannot stay on the line for more than an hour. It is conversation at its best! I am amazed at how much is realized by individuals and some of it is hysterical and some is heart breaking. But the bottom line is nothing is off-limits – the anonymity created causes some pretty big revelations…check it out here.
I also did some summer shopping – summer travels are around the corner and since I will be spending most of my time at the beach I want clothing that can be transformed from casual to dinner or brunch chic. I came across this top and it has a Chanel-esque quality that I love! It is a bit shredded around the neck and the perfect light weight for summer. Also the boxy shape is silly comfortable!
I added the casual cropped denim, comfy gold slides and grabbed my Céline and I was ready to roll…
Hope everyone is having a great week! One of my favorite trends from the Spring runways is the bold floral pattern. Florals and patterns have been around the past few seasons, but this season the florals became bolder and more vivid. It was seen all over, including Victoria Beckham and her Moroccan exotic flora, Michael Kors who was bluebell crazy, and Kate Spade’s show positively screamed flowers. When I came across this dress I fell in love with the color and the silhouette. The pigmentation of the purple and green is absolutely stunning in person. I kept all of my accessories simple to keep the focus on the florals. Summer Brunch, here I come!
Hope everyone is having a great week! I am just getting off of the high of seeing Salman Rushdie at the Inprint reading on Monday night. He was absolutely incredible – his knowledge of literature to politics to history is absolutely incredible (so pretty much everything). And his sense of humor is divine – have I ever mentioned how much I love a funny guy? I can not wait to start reading the book – Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights (i.e. 1001 Arabian Nights).
The borrowed from the boys category is a full on trend this season (see my tux and button down styled here) and what says prep school more than a navy blue blazer? This particular blazer received my attention because of the sleek white satin lapel which gave it a cool twist. While the gold buttons on the sleeves kept it classic. It is a great way to incorporate the boys trend and still keep it modern and not “literally” borrowed from the boys. I also wanted a dash of fun and girly so the button down in the cobalt leopard was just what I needed to complete the look. I can’t wait to wear my leopard again! The fringe shoes are still going strong so if you haven’t purchase a pair yet – check out my fun high and low finds below.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and remained as dry as possible! I cannot tell a lie I did enjoy the first day of torrential rain with coffee and a good book (I am currently reading An Unneccessary Woman). But as the rainy days have wore on and events have gotten canceled – I am pretty done with the rain at this point.
Today, I want to share an outfit I wore right before the rain storm started. I previously styled this tunic here with skinnies but I wanted to try it with flares today. This long tunic works with both silhouettes and is extremely flattering on different body shapes. The neutral color is also perfect for playing with different colors and today I added some army green through the jacket (see jacket styled here with a maxi). It was the perfect outfit that took me from meetings to date night.
I am writing from Rosemary Beach – I am in complete beach mode. My biggest choices daily right now are – sunscreen and should I reapply sunscreen? 🙂
Wanted to share some casual vacation pics from Washington, DC. I had styled these culottes previously here and wanted to go casual while sightseeing in (gulp) flats. I adore these culottes – they are extremely comfy and they don’t wrinkle ever! Perfect for travel. I wanted to add a bit off fun so I threw in some pops of red with shoes, bag and lipstick. I have already rocked this outfit in Rosemary!
