So sorry I have been behind in posting on the blog but it is all due to back to school madness!
It is still scorching here in Houston but I had some meetings indoors – I took advantage and put on some layers. The borrowed from the boys look is a huge trend this fall. The key to wearing this trend is to keep elements of the outfit feminine. The cross body bag in a girly silver and sparkly skater shoes were the perfect details. Skater shoes are still going strong for fall and these sparkly ones made my heart thump. Did I mention these beauties are $24.99? I bought an extra pair in case I wore this pair out.
I hope you have been having a wonderful week! If this morning drive is any indication I think it is going to be a great weekend. I don’t want to say this out too loud – but is there a chill in the air? Also, where is all my morning traffic? I say we shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. I am going to go break out my blazer and scarf ASAP.
I hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday! I have had an extremely busy week but it has been wonderful none the less. When the weather starts to get slightly warmer I tend to start thinking nautical – no doubt this has to do with cruise collections.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Today as temperatures soar into the mid 70’s in Houston (the 30 – 40 degree temperature swings this year are unbelievable), I want to share my restyling of the caftan. I styled this delightful garment a while back with pants (seen here), but today I want to share an alternative styling option.
Hope you are surviving your week thus far! I am sorry for the late post this morning, but I hosted an Inprint meeting last night that ran a tad bit late. Inprint is an organization that fosters the art of creative writing here in Houston. They do many wonderful things around town, but they are most well known for the Margaret Root Brown Reading series. If you have never attended this event then I highly recommend that you buy some tix for the reading next Monday night (November 18th), and be prepared to be transported by a wonderful reading by Chimanda Adichie & Colum McCann. I promise it will be the best five dollars you ever spent.
I had a wonderful time last night, and there were a few highlights to my evening that have to be mentioned. I was a tad bit giddy when I met Chitra Banerjee Divakuruni right in my kitchen! Some authors are great writers and some are great story tellers, but she has been blessed with both talents. If you have not read any of her books, I am very excited to introduce you to this wonderful writer. I recommend that you run out and delve in to her new novel Oleander Girl right away.
The other highlight of my evening was the typewriter busking! If you have never heard of this (which I hadn’t) – you must try it. Basically you provide any topic of your choosing to the busker (in this case two lovely University of Houston graduate students in the creative writing program) and he or she will write a poem (on a typewriter) right there in front of you! It was delightful! My topic was “style” and here is the busking that I got.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween! My neighborhood was besieged by hordes of tiny, cute monsters, princesses and superheroes. I have enough candy left over that I will probably be eating it through next Halloween. On the fashion front, I felt it was time to share my favorite color again today – blush pink!
