Five Ways to Wear a Scarf: Blue Joggers & Mustard

Hello lovelies!
I hope everyone has been having a wonderful week! Unfortunately I have been under the weather with this crazy cough that has gone around (I have not spent this much time recuperating in bed in years….) On a positive note, as part of my R&R, I discovered a new binge-worthy series – American Crime. Have you seen it? It is extremely gritty, but I have enjoyed the premise – following one crime over the span of each season. I became so invested in the characters in season one that I had to take a break to recover for a bit after the explosive ending (insert crazy eye emoticon). Season two was a completely different story line, but still very relevant to issues in current society (I cannot imagine what the crime will be in season 3, but I am waiting with bated breath!)
Also as part of my recovery I decided to clean up my computer, and I came across these pics that were never posted! I love accessories in general, and scarves are one of my absolute favorites. They are great as an accent accessory, as a pop of color, to elevate a casual outfit, or simply to keep you warm in those frigid Houston restaurants or movie theaters. There are a multitude of ways they can be styled, and I have shared five options below (coupled with my casual jogger pants.) These pants are amazing as a casual errand look with kicks, and fun with heels (the juxtaposition of joggers with heels is just spot-on cool!)

1 – The simple one loop – the baby step into wearing a scarf. It is carelessly chic.

Obsessed: Knitwear Find For the Beach

Hello lovelies!

I apologize – I have spent the past two weeks hanging out with my mom, so the blog has largely been on vacation. We just got back from Rosemary Beach, where it was perfect weather other than one day of rain when we arrived. Actually I do not mind a little rain on vacation – it is the perfect excuse to curl up in my window nook with a good book. I am currently reading Uncovered by Leah Lax, and I cannot say enough good things about this book – run (do not walk) and get it immediately. Leah was my Table Talk speaker last week at the University of Houston Women’s Studies event. She is an amazing speaker and her life story is captivating – she had the entire table hanging on her every word. I do not want to give too much away, but I promise you will be just as enthralled as I am. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the book if you get a chance to read it.

I just discovered this new knitwear collection by Zara and I am completely smitten. This skirt and sweater are extremely soft and light weight, making them the perfect pieces for a beach vacation. I intend to wear the skirt with a fitted T-shirt and a sweater to stay warm in restaurants at dinner (we tend to over air-condition everything here in Houston…) During the day with flip-flops it will be extremely casual, and at night I just need a pair of heels and some jewelry and I am ready to roll.

Here are some sneak peeks of the new house too….

Winter White Casual: Hoodie & Flats

Hello lovelies!

I have been extremely jet lagged but the good thing is that waking up at 4am gives me lots of extra time to catch up on shows (has anyone else started watching How to Make a Murderer?  I am OBSESSED!  It is basically the video version of the Serial podcast), get some reading in (currently I am reading All The Light We Cannot See and it is beautifully written), and make organization lists.  I love a well-organized house – I basically want my house to look like no one lives in it.  Since that is near impossible, I have made a New Year’s resolution to declutter.  I may be going way overboard but cruising the Container Store website is making me silly happy these days.  I am finished with my closet, night side tables, bathroom and my next project is my desk.  I am going to go room through room until I am done.  It is amazing how much junk I have held onto thinking I might need it one day.  I have decided I will buy it in the future, if and when I need it – which may be 10 years from now or never.

I wore this outfit while I cruised the furniture stores.   Thank you Mitchell+Gold for my little vanity table – I am a happy woman.

Keeping Warm: Gray Cashmere Poncho & Leather Pants

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  The temps have dropped tremendously and I am reaching for my cashmere poncho.  This wrap feels like a warm hug on a chilly day.  The pale gray is flattering on almost every skin tone and it goes with everything.  I have been getting dressed and throwing it on top of virtually every outfit (I also adore it in the black and birch color – dreamy).

Printed Palazzo Pants and Sleek Leather Jacket

Hello lovelies!

I hope everyone is having a great week!  I have been getting asked a lot of questions lately about in-store shopping versus on-line shopping.  The truth is that I barely ever go to the actual brick and mortar stores anymore.  The convenience of free shipping and free returns is too good to pass up.  I am a huge fan of trying clothes and accessories on at home so I can pair with items from my own wardrobe (and to make sure I do not already have 15 similar items).  In terms of sizing and such – if I am unclear how the items run then I order a larger and smaller size to cover all my bases.  With free shipping and returns it makes the returns so effortless and I don’t have to worry that my size will be gone.

I have been looking for a pair of palazzo pants for a while now and I adore the color and pattern of this particular pair.  It is even prettier in person!  The teal, gray, black and beige is just gorgeous.  I wanted to play with the colors in the pants so I added the beige top and the gray jacket (my new favorite – it goes with everything and the slighter lower hem in back makes it very sleek).  No competition was necessary for the pants so I kept the shoes a neutral suede.

Jacquard Asymmetrical Skirt, Floppy Hat & Flats

Hello lovelies!

Hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying the short reprieve from the rain!  I cannot get enough of this amazing weather and I must confess….Mr. Wonderful has convinced me to start…..cycling!  I know I haven’t processed this yet either….I have to say upfront the outfit is not very cute no matter how much pink I throw at it (and I am throwing a lot of accessories at it!)  But I do love to be outdoors and the current weather is a great motivator.  I am still getting use to the ummmm…seat, but other than that I have not enjoyed being in the outdoors this much in a long time.

Does anyone remember when they learned how to ride a bike?  It is my single most prominent memory of my childhood.  My father taught how me to ride, and I can still remember his very large frame on my tiny red BMX pedaling away to show me the motion.  When my turn came, he swore he wouldn’t let go, and of course as soon as I started pedaling quickly he did.  I turned around and when I saw that he had let go, I promptly turned the wheel and ran into a wall.  Like a good student I dusted myself off and got back on the bike, and since that moment for me cycling represented my very first freedom – the ability to get somewhere without my parents (and for a relatively sheltered child it was amazing!)  I still get that same sense of freedom even today – I will keep you posted on my cycling adventures.

Meanwhile, I wore this yesterday to a few meetings.  I adore this asymmetrical skirt (also styled here) and I wanted to keep it chic but easy with flats.  These shoes are one of my favorite flats (I rarely wear flats, but I like the slight stacked bottom on this pair) and they go with just about everything I own.  The floppy hat trend continues through this fall and it is great for bad hair days (yup I was lazy this day).

Love at First Sight: Stripes & Fit and Flare dress

Hello lovelies!

Hope everyone had a great week!  I have been at a Halloween Parade this morning and just got back so my post is a bit late this morning – sorry!  I want to share an outfit I wore this last week.  I am chairing an event for University of Houston Table Talk this coming March.  Here is a quick blurb about the event:

Table Talk is a fascinating combination of conversations over lunch, led by dynamic women of various cultures, professions and experience at each table. Table Talk benefits the Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program and the Carey C. Shuart Women’s Archive and Research Collection at the University of Houston.

The Shuart Women’s Archive collects, preserves and shares the stories of women’s contributions to Texas and Houston. The WGSS Program combines theoretical and empirical studies, to give students the tools to analyze gender dynamics of the past and present to build a fair future.

You can get more information on Table Talk here – and I would love to see everyone there so please do join in this amazing event!

I hosted the Host Committee event last week and this is what I wore.  I saw this dress online and fell in love with it all – the color, the shape and the stripes!
